6/6/17 I've been terrible about updating, but I have good writing news! My essay about being a long-term substitute teacher, "Without Artifice," was published by December magazine, and the issues started arriving last month. You can order them online, but the essay is in print only. Also! Yesterday, Guernica published my true crime/memoir essay about my father's arrest for growing marijuana and a high-profile murder he solved while a cop. It's called "What Seems to Be the Problem, Officer?" and it's available to read online.

1/27/17 I have two readings coming up: 1. At AWP 2017 in Washington, D.C., I'll be reading a short piece of prose at the Yellow Flag Press, Gigantic Sequins, & UL Lafayette AWP Offsite reading at the George Washington Museum and Textile Museum (701 21st St. NW) on Thursday, February 9, 4-6 p.m. 2. I will also be reading at the Thursday Night Reading Series again, in Lafayette, LA, on March 16, 7-9 p.m., at POETS (1043 Johnston St.). This is part of the Banned Books Week celebration.

12/2/16 I have a new essay out! Yesterday, my hybrid photostory/essay, "On Beauty," was published in Anthropoid's second issue, "Folk." It's an essay on beauty and art and photojournalism and perfection, using photos I shot as a photojournalism student 12 years ago. I'm really happy with it and so pleased Anthropoid wanted to publish it.

11/5/16 I was in a "Victorian Literature with the UL English Department" panel at the Steampunk and Makers Fair today. It was really fun to get up on stage and talk about Victorian literature in front of a crowd of corsets and prop guns. I hope I get to do that again.

10/1/16 I woke up to news that I was named as an Honorable Mention for The Cincinnati Review's Robert and Adele Schiff Awards in Prose and Poetry. My essay, "There is Nowhere in Kentucky Far Enough Away from Appalachia," didn't win and it won't be published, but it's an honor to be named. (Always a bridesmaid, never a bride.)

9/4/16 Yesterday I learned I didn't win December's Curt Johnson Prose Award in Nonfiction, but December wants to publish my essay anyway! "Without Artifice" should come out in their Spring 2017 issue (Volume 28.1)! I really like their magazine, so I'm very, very excited.

8/3/16 I've been named a finalist in December magazine's Curt Johnson Prose Award in Nonfiction! We should know who won the contest by the end of the month, but I'm thrilled just to be named a finalist.

7/20/16 This fall, I'll be reading at the local Thursday Night Reading Series, which is associated with my graduate program at the University of Louisiana at Lafayette in Lafayette, LA. See you at POETS, 7-9 p.m., on October 20.

6/3/16 From July 7 to August 4, I'll be teaching a creative nonfiction workshop at the lovely Achilles Print Studio in Lafayette, LA. It's called "It's All in the Art: A Creative Nonfiction Workshop" and it's once a week for an hour and a half. I'm really excited!

5/22/16 My hybrid photostory/essay, "On Beauty," was accepted by Anthropoid, a great new online journal, for their second issue ("Folk"), and it should come out this summer.

2/9/16 I'll be reading at AWP 2016 at "Best Words: an AWP off-site reading by Yellow Flag Press, Gigantic Sequins, & the University of Louisiana at Lafayette CW Grad Program," 7-9 p.m., at Eastside International (602 Moulton Ave.) in Los Angeles, CA.
